Library day has changed!

Our day to check out books from the school library has changed to Wednesdays beginning this week.  We will still go to the library on Monday afternoons for library skills time, but checkout will be Wednesdays instead of Thursdays.

How do scientists classify animals?

We are beginning to study animals this week in science. Today we paired up and classified animal picture cards. A few of our categories were...
-big and small
-water, land, and flying animals
-feathers, skin, fur
-jumpy, swimmy, slithery
-mean and nice

Daily Math

This year we're using small groups to teach math - much like we do with reading. Each morning students rotate through 3 math rounds. So far, this routine has been successful. It allows more time and attention for students that need extra support and more enrichment opportunities for students that have mastered the concepts.

Book Orders Due!

Just a reminder that our first Scholastic book orders are due tomorrow, September 14th.  If you would like to purchase books in this order, please return the order form and a check payable to Scholastic by the end of the day on Friday.

Pedal the Plains

Morris Elementary students will be participating in the Pedal the Plains opening ceremony on the morning of Friday, September 21st.  We will be walking from the school to Old Threshers and back.  Permission slips for this event will be in your child's Friday Folder this Friday, September 14th.  Please sign and return these slips on Monday.  Thanks!

Welcome Back!

Our first week of second grade was fantastic!  I am so excited to see what this group will accomplish this year. My class has a fun mix of personalities and I've been impressed with how well they've made the transition back to school-mode.  I hope everyone enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend. Week 2, here we come!
