Halloween Party

We will be having our Halloween Parade again this year at MES!  Please send your child's costume to school with him/her.  Students will put their costumes on right before the parade.  We don't have time to do hair, make-up, or anything extra.  Also, please remember that no weapons, blood, or scary costumes are allowed.  At 2:40, we'll begin the parade of costumes, and a short party will follow back in our classroom.  Parents are welcome to attend!

Money, Money, Money

Our money unit has been a little more challenging than I anticipated this year.  I need your help at home.  Please spend some time counting spare change with your child.  I will continue to bring practice activities in as I can, but the bulk of our time to spend on money is nearly over.
If you allow your child to play online games, you might try www.abcya.com/counting_money.htm.  Thanks!

A community presentation will be held at the high school from 7:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday evening.

Landforms

We studied landforms a few weeks ago in social studies, and we'll be revisiting them this week as we learn more about animal habitats.  We made flipbooks with a definition and picture of each landform.  Then we used play dough to create them.  I love how creative this group is!

September's Writer of the Month

Each month MES teachers will be choosing a student writer to showcase.  A piece of this student's writing will be on display in the main hallway.  This month's writer is pictured below.  She did a great job describing our tent.  She used complete sentences, topic-specific words, and a detail as a subject.  Great work!

Tribe Pride Students of the Month

We had our first Tribe Pride Assembly on Monday afternoon.  Congratulations to my Tribe Pride Students of the Month for September!  Remember, to earn this award students must have perfect attendance for the month (this includes arriving to school on time), show Tribe Pride in all areas of the school, and have no office referrals.
Way to go, guys!  I'm proud of you!

Second Grade Goes Camping

Last week we read Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night.  In the story, Henry and his dog Mudge go camping with Henry's parents.  In our classroom we read and wrote about camping.  We got to read in a tent, and we wrote about flashlights, lanterns, sleeping bags, and trail mix.  It was a fun week!
There's nothing better than a good book in a tent with a flashlight!
After an hour of meeting with writing groups to describe the sleeping bag, I was melting!
He's making s'more words!  He was working so hard, he didn't even notice me standing over him to take the picture.  I love that!

Pedal the Plains

We enjoyed our walk to Old Threshers on September 21st for the Pedal the Plains opening ceremony.  MES students were a great addition to the morning's festivities.
